India- a land of rich culture, colorful festivals, and warm hospitality has much more to give you than you can ever explore. Each aspect of India is unique in itself. The more you explore the less you know! Yes, India is a big country with much diversity. Indian holidays are definitely going to be colorful if you plan your visit during the seasons of fairs and festivals. India has its hands full of fairs and festivals all throughout the year. Populace love celebrating each and every minute occasion.

Onam, a festival celebrated by Keralites, is also a part of colourful Indian holidays. Onam is celebrated in honour of Mahabali, the mythical Asura king of ancient Kerala. This is mainly done in the harvest month of August/September. It is a way of welcoming the start of harvest season- a significant season for farmers worldwide. It is celebrated for ten days at a stretch. People visit temples as a part of their culture and participate in get-togethers. They sing, dance, gift clothes, enjoy fairs, eat good food among others. Houses are washed and decorated with flowers as they believe that Mahabali pays visit to houses of the devotees during these auspicious ten days. The Keralites eat food in the traditional banana leaves and enjoy the most famous of all- Vallamkali (the legendary snake boat race).

Indian holidays can best be enjoyed if synchronizing your trip during festival seasons.
