Holidays in India, especially during the fair seasons, have their matchless charm. And to indulge into it, foreigners from all parts of the world flow in large numbers. The colourful and rich culture of India has always attracted tourists from round the globe, in large numbers. The fairs are a part of the rich Indian culture and, to see them celebrate with millions of people participating and enjoying themselves thoroughly; is a unique experience in itself.

Puri Rath Yatra is one of those globally eminent fairs of India that sees participants or rather devotees in millions, all gathered together to get a glimpse of Lord Jagannatha. A part and parcel of holidays in India, Puri Rath Yatra sees its existence from decades and decades back.  According to the mythology Lord Jagannatha left Dvaraka to attend function in Kuruksetra some 5000 years ago. He was known to travel by an opulent chariot along with his sister Subhadra and elder brother Balarama to Vrindavan. Since then each year in the month of June/July Puri sees celebration of the Rath Yatra in large scale. Not only Puri, but also all over India and abroad devotees are seen to be celebrating it in huge scale. The gigantic chariots, each year, are constructed with large number of workers put to work. The ambience and the minute detailing of the chariots are hypnotizing. Each year the tourists from all over the world gather on this auspicious day and pull the three chariots to Lord Jagannatha aunt’s place. And at the end of the seventh day they are brought back to the main temple with utmost devotion, celebration and care.

Holidays in India, especially when you schedule it during some grand fairs and festivals, can make you experience something matchless and un-expressible in words!
